Session 2 (13:00 - 16:30) Centred on skills to develop, including negotiating, interview techniques and networking.

13:00 -16:30 pm Skills for businesses to develop including negotiating, interview techniques and networking.

Essential skills needed in business such as:

- Being an effective negotiator; this could mean the difference between making a profit or loss.

- Interviewing techniques; How do you ensure that you hire the right staff? The use of good interviewing techniques to obtain the most useful information.

- Networking; understand the importance of networking and creating the right impression at the first meeting.

This session will be interactive so feedback can be given on your skills.

Speaker:

Sandrea Maynard, Barrister-at-Law and Educator. I am the Enterprise, Commercial and International Associate Head of the Law School. Her role requires her to bring in new business for the Law School, negotiate business contracts, prepare proposals and networking at events and conferences. She has 20 years practising at the Bar of England and Wales where she has been an in-house barrister and for the majority of those years being self-employed. She has worked with small and medium business enterprises both nationally and internationally on a consultancy basis. She also runs a module called BUSLEC (Business and Law Enterprise Clinic) as part of the LLB Law degree.

 

The event is aimed at start-ups, smaller businesses and entrepreneurs that aren’t as experienced. Attendees will gain confidence in legalities of running small businesses and developing additional skills outside their basic business focus. 

Please note: there is also a morning session taking place at 09:00am - 12:30pm.
